NLOCATION Walking Tour #2 has been rescheduled for Saturday, June 9 at 10 am. The second Location Survey will be delayed accordingly, and open on the same day -- June 9 and open for 10 days. You have to visit the sites in person in order to vote on location. Why delay? The heat of summer will hit early this weekend, and the originally scheduled time of 1 pm threatened to make the event an unpleasant, sweltering march -- instead of the joyous journey of adventure it should be! Why join the walking tour? The walking tour is the best opportunity to help choose the mural site. Truly, the only way to appreciate the differences between the sites is to see them in person -- and talk them over with neighbors. We can share how we use the places, what we love about each site, and share concerns with a rapt audience. PLUS it is a great time to make new friends and explore and imagine our neighborhood in a new, superfun way. Kids love the walking tours, too (especially chatty ones with scooters, 7+). Which sites are being considered? There are currently about 15 sites up for consideration. Some are large (i.e. the concrete pad near the Spiderman Playground, intersections of greenbelt paths, or Hacienda Ave cul-de-sac), and others are small (i.e. crosswalk on Quail or the sidewalk behind Atria Covell Gardens). We can walk to all of them within about 30 minutes. We have a limited budget, so we will rank the sites in order of preference, and see how far our paint will take us. Since we will stop at each site to chat, the tour takes about 90 minutes. Proposed locations are highlighted in dark blue. Volunteers are slowly contacting residents of adjoining homes to see how people feel about having a mural (or smaller painted feature) nearby. In addition to the neighborhood vote, the feasibility of each of these sites must be determined to choose the final location(s) -- this means checking to see if neighbors in adjoining houses support the project and asking the city about logistics with each site (road closures, repaving schedule, etc). How can I help? We could use a helping hand this week with compiling location info from the walking tours (i.e. typing and organizing info) and with chatting with neighbors at certain proposed sites.
